Où résident nos ombres ? Dans ce drame psychologique, la protagoniste et narratrice Luzia, à travers le flux de conscience, nous invite à plonger dans son histoire. Nous découvrons une femme souffrant de mélancolie, intensément accentuée par le deuil. Le décor commence sur la plantation de tabac d’un père autoritaire et violent et alterne avec son propre déséquilibre psychique intérieur. Where do our shadows dwell? In this psychological drama, the character and narrator Luzia leads us, through a stream of consciousness, to dive deep into her story. We encounter a woman suffering from melancholy, profoundly intensified by grief. Between consciousness and delirium, light and shadow, she brings forth successive traumas echoing from her childhood into adulthood. The setting shifts from her authoritarian and violent father’s tobacco plantation to her own inner landscape of psychological imbalance. Scenes of her delirium drag the reader through the murky inner waters of the character. Images oscillating between the uncanny and the poetic reinforce the guilt Luzia carries regarding her brother, further fueling her melancholy. Immersed within the character’s family core is also the stain of patriarchal abuse and the silencing of women. Agualuz is a novel of many layers, revealing through powerful and sensitive imagery what lies hidden in the shadows of human traumas and bonds.
